Purrfectly Trained Cat

If so, how? Is it possible to do with an adult cat? (1 or 4 years old?)
The reason: My kitty absolutely ADORES the outdoors and wouldn’t be happy inside. Basking in the backyard sun does no harm and we don’t live by a busy street. However, there have recently been reports of cats going missing in the night due to coyotes.
My grandparents wanted the same thing, they simply fed him inside at 6(ish) and closed the door.
quite simply, he came for the food, stayed because he couldn’t get out
There is a nice, friendly, stray cat who’s owners moved and left him behind. He comes up to me and my husband (he is scared of everyone else in the neighborhood), and he is very skinny so we started feeding him a few months ago. We want to make it offical and adopt him completely so he can live inside our house with our other cat. Our other cat is 10 years old, and has never had to live with another animal. I am not sure what her reaction will be.
Also our landlord made us declaw her, so I am sure we will have to declaw the other cat too. So I know when we do this that we will probably have to board him at the vet until he heals from being declawed and neutered before meeting our cat since they might fight for the first couple days.
I have alot of questions, such as: Will our other cat train him to use the litterbox? How do I introduce them? We have been letting each one smell the other on us, and our clothes ect…
Does anyone have any advice? Thanks alot
Cats won’t learn if they decide not to. And, cats are naturally curious.
I would put a spring on my basement door so that it closes after you, each time.
keep your cat inside. they live longer, happier, and healthier lives inside.
Like most cats, my cat likes to disobey the rules. She knows she’s not allowed in the basement because when I’m doing laundry and she sneaks down there I’ll yell at her and she’ll run back upstairs. I try to keep the door shut but sometimes I forget. How can I better train her?
Some people don’t want cats in their yard, so they rent cat traps or may try other less humane methods.
So I adopted a second cat and in her past she was allowed to go outdoors a little. However, we would like her to be an indoor only cat because of the large coyote population in the area who have been known to snatch up cats. How can I train her to stay inside? At the shelter we adopted her from they suggested having a spray bottle near the door and spray her when she comes near the door. Does anyone else have any suggestions? She is very quick and sneaky so I’m nervous about her sneaking out. Any suggestions would be great!
He has killed a kitten before. Other than the cat thing he is a good dog. Seeing cats makes him go crazy. Help!
Sometimes there is no cure for this. However, what I find works best is training them in the Leave It command. Use a toy or treat at first, and tell them to “leave it”, using a hand in front of their face to signal it. If they ignore you, say “no”, and take the thing away, then try again. Once they do it correctly, reward them, and when they do it every time you ask, keep enforcing it and it will eventually work for cats. You also may want to consult a professional if this does not work.
she probably will not stop doing this since you have already tried the posts and scratchers, but you could put plastic over your couch all the way down the legs and when she feels a different feeling on her claws she might stop this, cats don’t like change like this so it is a good way to break a habit for her.
My cat is an outdoor cat and loves to play outside the whole day. Yesterday I couldn’t find her. Once in a while she never comes home, but shows up the next morning. So I need to train her to come back before 9:00. Thanks
only put out food once a day, at 8:45. You will be surprised how a cat learns to tell time.
I have cat posts and cat scratchers, but she still prefers the couch and chairs. I would put the corner things on the arms, but she scratches all parts of the couch.
Introducing a new animal into the house is always a little tricky, especially when the existing animal has never been around others.
Introduce them slowly. Put the stray in a separate room and close the door. Let the two sniff each other underneath the door. Keep the stray in that room until they get used to each other’s scents. Make sure you put a litter box and food and water in there with him. After a couple of days open the door and allow them to see each other. Supervised of course. Don’t get upset if they hiss. Its all a part of the introduction. Break up any fights that happen with a spray bottle. Never put your hands where they could get bit. Eventually, with time, they should get used to each other being around. If not, then you will have to find the stray another home. Patience is the key.
As for the litter box, the stray should already know how to use one. Its instinctual.
I hope this helps.
Here’s the problem. We have two cats. We have recently been sleeping with the door closed. On a nightly basis, one of the cats starts vigorously swatting the door around 4 – 6 AM. Snapping my fingers seems to stop it temporarily, but then the cat is back at it half an hour to an hour later. I had read that squirting water under the door was a solution, but usually when this happens I’m deep asleep and unable to quickly get up to squirt. Is there some sort of motion detecting squirt bottle? I thought I had read that something of the sort existed. I need some solution to get the cat to behave because I cannot lose 2-4 hours of sleep a night because the crazy cat is being stupid.
As for why we don’t sleep with the door open, it’s because the other cat is very talkative around the same time and keeps us awake if we keep the door open. Please help. Thanks.
Oh you sweet dears for adopting two cats! I currently have two myself. One has been with us for 3 years and the other is a kitten of 6 months. I suggest tiring them both out with Turkey-based canned food…..it seems to work for mine and they get their canned food around 11pm. then they sleep through the night! Hope it helps!
ok, you know how if you stand by the door of your room you feel the air coming from the hallway? well that means theres a little space. my cat paws at the door and pushes against it and it goes boomboom boomboom boomboom and its really annoying, he wakes me up too early on days i have to go to school and then i can go back to sleep.help please!!!!1
HES ON THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR!
he he he yeah you get that when your cat wants attention.
one way is to open your door and invite him/her in and show them they can come and go when they please other wise you will have to lock the kitty out of you room and give the kitty a soft spank and tell him no, i’m not saying beat your cat but a soft spank with a hard no, after a couple times that should work good luck.
ps you can also try a squirt bottle if you can not bring yourself to spank your baby
