Pomeranian Dog Tips From An Expert
I’m planning on buying one but can only see pictures online/or sent to may mail. I just want to make sure that it is pure. What parts of its body should i look at just to make sure that it’s not a pom-spitz?
Thanks.
Given the fact that some pomspitz, by chance, resembles a nice looking pom, what are the key features to look at in order to say that it is a pomspitz and not a pure pomeranian?
Hello.
I own poms and have owned them for years.
While nowadays, poms range in a ton of sizing, the AKC official size is 4-7lbs. (4-6 if showing)
Spitz dogs are usually bigger with pointy ears and foxy faces. But now poms are foxed face too because of not so good breeding. Either way, a pom is a pom, they are AMAZING dogs, smart, and if trained and socialized properly, they and great with everyone.
MY pom loves people.

Some very healthy Poms have even been known to live 18-20 years. But most live between 13-16 years if you take good care of them
Just wanted to know what a pitbull and a pom dog mixed looks like.
I have a female pit and a male pom that accidentally hooked up and now she will be having puppies. I was just wondering how they would look?
I have never seen one, but I can’t imagine it’s very cute.
i’m just going to buy one, i’ll move to an apartment
and id love to have a dog that makes a good company
such as pomaranians (L)
thkss
I think it really depends on the dog. I have a little pom girl who is incredibly affectionate, and since I socialized her well from an early age, she doesn’t have the aggressiveness that some small dogs have (only being affectionate toward their owner and nippy/shy toward others).
A pom would be a great choice of dog.
They’re incredibly affectionate, loyal, and tend to have upbeat personalities. Though… make sure you don’t mind sweeping and vacuuming every day! They’re intense shedders.
Three months ago I purchased what I was told was a full blooded pomeranian, she was so small she fit in the palm of my hand so there was no way I could tell at that time. I have looked up pictures of pom/chis and she looks a lot like them, but I haven’t found any that look quite like her. I have also heard that sometimes a pomeranians coat will not grow and in that case they are just not show quality, but her ears seem a little big for a pom, and she shakes a lot – like a chihuahua. So I would love to hear some opinions from some people that know any thing about pomeranians, chihuahuas, or pom/chis.
Hi, really need a picture, all i can tell you. is, if you don’t have papers, its not always a guarantee that it is a pedigree, then again you can get a dog that is not true to standard of the breed, which means its not show quality, just pet Quality. also, I’ve had people who had papers on “pedigreed” dogs, that truly were not! like something got through the gate and mated with the mother dog, other than the papered stud, you almost need to go on Maury to get a DNA test!! lol
i bought a pomeranian dog. now it is 4 month old.. and it has no hairs like pomeranian.give me the details of hair growing stages of pom dogs
it is probably Puppy uglies. All poms go thru it.

Some lines don’t get their full adult coat until 2 years old. The best way to figure out what it’s coat is going to be like is to look at the parents.
I’m trying to find a Pom-Coton mix — they’re very hard to find. I’d prefer to find a young dog (less than one year) or a puppy that has had sufficient time to separate properly. The biggest challenge I have is locating one from a reputable source in the greater San Jose area. Any advice would be appreciated.
I’m looking more for some specific blends/characteristics that come from the hybridization. I know that the variance would be high from litter to litter, but any suggestions would be appreciated!
Check your local animal shelter:

http://petfinder.com/
There’s no such thing as a reputable breeder that breeds mutts, so if you want a reputable source your options fall to shelters and rescues.
Really what’s the point in wanting a specific mix anyway? The characteristic can be any combination of the parents’ characteristics, and even dogs of the same mix (even with in the same litter) are all going to be quite different.
Add:
A mixed breed is not a hybrid- Hybrid requires two species and different breeds of dogs don’t fit that.
There is no specific blends or characteristics that come from a mixed breed- You could get a dog that looks or acts exactly like either breed or anything in between. If you want specific characteristics look into a purebred.
Again shelters and rescues are the only reputable source.
Please answer! I want to put him in a dog show but all of them seem to be AKC required and my dog is not in that club so i wannt to noe how else is it possible to but my precious pom in a dog show?
There are often fun matches put on by local groups. as for a point show to earn a championship, AKC and UKC are the only legit games in town. Sorry!
Another dog question
Well, my mom has agreed to let me get a dog if I can find a free or cheap (50-60 dollars) toy puppy, 8-12 weeks old. I can and will pay my own vet bills, kennel fees, for food and toys, ect. I’m having trouble because all the dogs are registered and bred for show, which means they will be expensive. I’m looking for a toy dog (of course he or she can be a mut) that isn’t bred for show, that is free to a good home, or in my price range.
If you are a dog owner that has a toy puppy mix or toy puppy (8-12 weeks old) and you live in or near any of the following, then please leave your email and I will contact you straight away. Hagerstown, Shepherdstown, Martinsburg, Boonsboro, Sharpsburg, ect.
The puppy would not have to be trained at all, but if he/she is, that’s fine too. We have a very animal safe environment, and I have plenty of experience around all kinds of dogs. Our house is air conditioned and we have plenty of room. We have a single family home (two stories) on three acres for he/she to play on, but I would take him/her for daily walks. I would be here almost 24/7 to care for him or her, and of course gender makes no difference.
Thanks so much everyone!
Okay first, this question was for people who are looking for a good home for their toy/toy mix puppy that they can’t keep, there are a lot of people out there who can’t afford their puppies or that are moving and can’t take them with them.
Second, I never said I wanted a purebred, so that doesn’t matter, it can be a mut as long as it’s a small toy breed.
I could afford to get one that is 300 dollars from a breeder, and I could still pay for vet bills, money isn’t an issue here. My mom just doesn’t want me to spend that much on the puppy, I have no idea why, that’s just one of her rules, I can’t do anything about it. Another one of her rules is that if I want to get a dog I have to get a puppy 8-12 weeks old, so there is no negotiating with her on that, and there’s no considering to get a 1 to 2 year old.
Thanks to anyone out there who will actually answer my question
By the way, don’t say to try local rescues or petfinder, because we don’t have any rescues that don’t cost over 100 dollars to buy one of their dogs, and I’ve already tried petfinder.
I need baby pups!!!!! Help..
Has your dog finished it’s AKC championship in the conformation ring? Has he had all the requisite genetic testing and health clearances available for the breed? Any responsible breeder will require that before considering using your dog as stud.
And just FYI: The owner of the FEMALE is the breeder of record and owner of ALL the pups. Only the most irresponsible of backyard breeders would risk the life of their female just because you want “baby pups”.
HERE ARE SOME THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE DECIDING TO BREED YOUR DOG:
Have they completed their AKC championships in the ring, thereby proving their quality as breeding stock?
Have you studied their pedigrees to determine possible genetic defects going back decades?
Have you evaluated male and female against the written breed standard to determine why their particular offspring would make a viable contribution to the breed?
Have you done the requisite health tests?
Are you willing to have their eyes, patellas and hips certified?
Do you understand the risk to the female in breeding her?
Are you willing to pay for a Caesaran, (quite common in poms, about $1,000.00 + postnatal care)
Are you willing to supplement and tube feed puppies for 24 hours a day?
Are you willing to spend 12 weeks hand raising puppies in your home?
Are you willing to go to the expense of 12 weeks of shots and wormings for however many puppies you bring into the world?
Are you willing to interview dozens of potential pet buyers to determine exactly which ones will be the absolute Best homes for your puppies?
Will you have a spay/neuter clause in your pet buyer contract requiring proof of spaying/neutering before each pup is 6 months old?
Will you GUARANTEE that for if ANY reason during the life of the puppies you’ve bred, their owners can no longer keep them, they must be returned to you?
